The Top 10 Activities on Your Keswick Holiday
Hey there, holiday planners! Got a trip to Keswick coming up? Then you’re in for a treat. We’ve used our local knowledge and put together our ultimate Top 10 list of things to do here this September. It’s a mix of classic and unique experiences guaranteed to make memories. So, grab a cuppa and let’s plan your perfect family Keswick adventures.
1. Conquer Catbells: The hike with the best view
Let’s start with a classic. Catbells is often called the “family-friendly fell” because it’s a manageable hike and you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views over Derwentwater, Skiddaw, and Borrowdale. Kids love the scramble near the top. It’s a proper taste of fell walking without being too intimidating. Check the weather forecast isn’t extreme and you have suitable clothing, then bag yourselves a Wainwright!

2. Set Sail on the Keswick Launch
For a different perspective on the scenery, hop on the Keswick Launch. You can take a circular tour of Derwentwater, or use them to get to the start of other walks (like the Catbells one!). A peaceful and beautiful view of the mountains from the water.
3. Get Your Hands Dirty on a Springs Farm Tour
We might be a bit biased, but for a truly unique and memorable experience, you have to visit our farm. A Springs Farm tour is an authentic, behind-the-scenes look at a real working farm. You’ll meet our goats and pigs, then board our accessible trailer for a bumpy ride to meet our magnificent Highland cows and fluffy-looking calves. You can hand-feed them carrots and get up close (but safely!) to these incredible animals. The tour finishes with the chance to cuddle our lambs and sheep.

4. Experience the Past at Honister Slate Mine
Got a rainy day? Honister Slate Mine is the perfect solution. Tucked away high in the fells, this mine offers fascinating tours that take you deep into the heart of the mountain. You’ll learn all about the history of mining in the area, and for those seeking more extreme Keswick adventures, there’s a fantastic Via Ferrata.
5. Step into a World of Illusion at The Puzzling Place
If you want something a bit different, The Puzzling Place is for you. It’s a museum of optical illusions that will have you all scratching your heads and laughing out loud. The “Anti-
Gravity Room” is a highlight and great for photos.

7. Play and Picnic at Whinlatter Forest
As well as being famous for mountain biking, Whinlatter is a fantastic spot for a picnic and a forest walk. There are mountain bike trails for all abilities. If you haven’t bought your bikes, they hire them out (helmets too). Kids love the adventure playground. Keep an eye out for red squirrels!
